Ice Core Science is at the heart of 'Beyond EPICA' and addresses the analysis of the core and the resulting science outputs. The main objective is to provide a well dated and continuous sequence of major geochemical tracers, greenhouse gases and climate proxies below 700 kyr to address the timing and amplitude of glacial - interglacial cycles over the last 1.5 Myr. To reach this major objective our efforts will concentrate on obtaining the best dating and perform high resolution measurements on the core such as water stable isotopes, gases, impurities, physical properties, as well as setting up cross-cutting consortia on signal preservation, dating and new methods to reach the highest possible resolution, precision, and accuracy.
