Today we continued processing the core drilled last year and made our first run at drilling. Unfortunately, we encountered several problems: a loss of communication with the core drill motor, a problem with the winch on the way up and a problem with the tower tilting. We've got a few ideas on how to fix all these problems, and we'll be working on them tomorrow. These problems were expected for a first run.

What we did today at LDC:

  • we continue processing the core in shift and processed 35m of ice from last year;
  • we removed the empty ice core boxes from the sledge, sorted them, and stored them in an empty container;
  • we attempted the first drill run of the season, with some problem, which should be solved soon. Drill is at surface.

End of day statistics:

  • Driller’s depth: NA
  • Logger’s depth: NA
  • Processed depth: 652 m; daily total 35 m
