Like yesterday, drilling was fairly stable today. Still using the same set-up, we made 6 runs around 4 meters long. We get a run with very low chips recovery, then we changer hollow shaft, and it get better. Anyway, this afternoon we decided to make a filtration run after lunch time.

We are still successfully processing the ice cores and have now reached 1103m depth.

The whole Beyond EPICA field team whish you a Merry Christmas.

What we did today at LDC:

  • we continued to drill in shifts;
  • we made a filtration run;
  • we continued processing ice drilled this year and processed 30m in shifts;
  • we continued drilling with the IGE’s dry shallow drill.

End of day statistics at lunch time:

  • Driller’s depth: 1210.54 m;
  • in between 19h30 yesterday and today lunch time we made 5 drilling runs (drillers delta depth: 4.36, 2.88, 4.19, 4.44, 4.26) for a total length of 20.13 meters (drillers delta depth);
