Weather at LDC 1 pm: cloudy and windy, T = -19.9°C, Wind = 6.9 m/s

Drilling continues with the same set-up. We made 8 runs of over four metres each. At the same time, processing is continuing, and at this rate we'll have caught up with drilling by next week.

We are trying the shower module today, but some fine tuning still needs to be done: one toilet being broken and the shower being rather cold at times.

What we did today at LDC:

  • drilling in shifts from 8h in the morning to midnight;
  • processed 60 ice cores;
  • did some BAS geophysical measurements;
  • drilled with the new IGE/F2G shallow drill;
  • tested the dual tube snow sampler.

End of day statistics at 19h30:

  • Driller’s depth: 1260.19 m;
  • we made a long filtering run in the morning and then, we made 8 runs between 19h30 yesterday and 19h30. The length of these cores were: 4.05, 4.44, 4.26, 4.5, 4.44, 4.51,4.51 and 4.32 (driller length), for a total of 30.52;
  • Logger’s depth: 1261.45 m
  • Current processing depth: 1162 m; daily total: 60 m; season total: 838 m.
