Weather at LDC 1 pm: sunny, T = -22°C, Wind = 1.9 m/s

Last night we have had an electric problem on the drill motor section. At the moment, we haven’t found the problem. We swap to our second Danish motor section, that we attached on the AWI four meters drill. We went back drilling in shift at 22h yesterday.

The first flight of ice core boxes (at -20°C) to MZS has been organized today. Iben supervised loading.

Today we also had a visit from people from Concordia and amongst them some from the seismic team, who picked up the seismometers set up two weeks ago.

What we did today at LDC:

  • drilled in shift;
  • processed 43 ice cores and caught up with drilling;
  • drilled with the new IGE/F2G shallow drill;
  • did some BAS geophysical measurements;
  • picked up the set of seismometers.

End of day statistics at 19h30:

  • Driller’s depth: 1338.18 m;
  • we made 7 runs between 19h30 yesterday and 19h30. The length of these core was: 4.5, 4.11, 4, 4.03, 3.91, 4.07, and 4.03 (driller length), for a total of 28.65;
  • Logger’s depth: 1339.63 m
  • Current processing depth: 1310 m; daily total: 30 m; season total: 984 m.
