Weather at LDC 1 pm: sunny, T = -18°C, Wind = 3.5 m/s

We continued shift drilling until 1pm today, to allow those who wished to do so to celebrate New Year's Eve at Concordia. We're still drilling core samples of over 4 metres.

The second flight of 33 ice core boxes (at -20°C) to MZS has been organized today. Iben supervised loading.

We continued to process the ice cores and finished 26 cores.

What we did today at LDC:

  • drilled in shift;
  • processed 26 ice cores;
  • did some BAS geophysical measurements on the way to Concordia.


End of day statistics at 13h:

  • Driller’s depth: 1359.97 m;
  • we made 5 runs between 19h30 yesterday and 13h today. The length of the cores was: 4.07, 4.42, 4.33, 4.39, and 4.35 (driller length), for a total of 21.56 meters.
  • Logger’s depth: 1361.31 m
  • Current processing depth: 1336 m; daily total: 26 m; season total: 1010 m.
