Weather at LDC 1 pm: cloudy and windy, T = -19.5°C, Wind = 3.8 m/s

Drilling in shift continues. We set up a new drill head and new cutters yesterday, and we are still capable to drill 4 to 4.5 meters cores.

Processing is going well and another 37m have been analyzed and made ready for shipment to Europe.

What we did today at LDC:

  • drilled in shift;
  • processed 37 ice cores;
  • finished the BAS geophysical measurements;
  • still drilling with the IGE new shallow drill (170 meters tonight).


End of day statistics at 19h30:

  • Driller’s depth: 1484.80 m;
  • we made 9 runs between 19h30 yesterday and 19h30 today. The length of the cores was: 4.09, 4.51, 4.17, 4.46, 4.44, 4.10, 4.19, 4.22 and 4.24 (driller length), for a total of 38.42 meters.
  • Logger’s depth:1481.29 m.
  • Current processing depth: 1424 m; daily total: 37 m; season total: 1099 m.
