Weather at LDC 1 pm: cloudy and windy, T = -22°C, Wind = 3.6 m/s

Drilling in shift continues in a stable mode. We are still drilling 4 to 4.5 meters cores.

Processing is going well and another 30m have been analyzed and made ready for shipment to Europe.

Today, we send 48 ice core boxes to Concordia, which have been stored in the balloon trench, waiting for a cold flight to MZS on the 8th of January.

What we did today at LDC:

  • drilled in shift;
  • processed 37 ice cores;
  • send 48 ice core boxes to Concordia.


End of day statistics at 18h00:

  • Driller’s depth: 1520.00 m;
  • we made 8 runs between 19h30 yesterday and 18h today. The length of the cores was: 3.99, 4.07, 4.47, 4.47, 4.28, 4.5, 4.49 and 4.46 (driller length), for a total of 34.73 meters.
  • Logger’s depth:1520.73 m.
  • Current processing depth: 1453 m; daily total: 30 m; season total: 1129 m.
