Weather at LDC 1 pm: sunny, T = -21.1°C, Wind = 0.7 m/s

Drilling in shift continues in a stable mode. We are still using the 4 meters AWI drill connected to the Danish motor section.

Processing is going well and another 31m have been analyzed and made ready for shipment to Europe.

We prepared some core boxes to be transported early tomorrow morning to Concordia.

What we did today at LDC:

  • drilled in shift;
  • processed 31 ice cores;
  • we loaded tonight 19 ice core boxes on the sledge in order to deliver these boxes in Concordia for a cold flight tomorrow morning;
  • we plan to have a filtering run tonight;
  • we sorted and stored empty ice core boxes in a container for the winter;
  • promising initial tests of a 2.2m version of dual tube snow sampler.


End of day statistics at 19h30:

  • Driller’s depth: 1604.5 m;
  • we made 8 runs between yesterday 19h30 and 19h30 today. The length of the cores was: 4.42, 4.13, 4.09, 4.34, 4.45, 4.51, 4.49 and 4.45 (driller length), for a total of 34.88 meters.
  • Logger’s depth:1604.92 m.
  • Current processing depth: 1545 m; daily total: 31 m; season total: 1222 m.
